Hello to All!

Building this site has been a fascinating journey into the past as well as the
present. The biggest reward has been the contacts made with lost or previously
unknown relatives. I must acknowledge that this website would never have been
possible were it not for the contributions of many other geneophiles who have been
kind enough to donate their knowledge and resources. Where possible I have tried to
credit these individuals with the information they provided, but I must admit that in
some cases I have lost track of who provided what. If you are one of the
accidentally neglected, please drop me an email and I will be sure to give the proper
credit. I have included links to the websites of many of these people. If you have a
site you would like me to provide a link for, do not hesitate to ask.

I also have to acknowledge my father Eugene McEvoy for getting this project started
and for contributing hours of his own research to the effort. Also, I must acknowledge
my mother Betty Lee McEvoy (Forrest) 1928-2001 who never threw anything away, and
Albert Croft who provided some of the lineage and fascinating memoirs before his
passing in the late 1980's.

The information compiled here is literally the result of hundreds of hours of
squinting in front of a computer monitor and waking up late for work from lack of
sleep. No matter how many hours I spend digging through old records, I will never
see those photos tucked away in that shoebox on the top shelf of your closet. Those
photos are what give a face to the people in this tree. Without them many of the
people here are still somewhat lost to history. By contributing you are not only
giving other people the chance to enjoy them, but you are also preserving them for
the future. We recently discovered a box of dozens of my mother's old family photos
tucked away under the eves sadly placed in the exact spot where the roof decided to
quietly spring a leak. Perhaps years of this unnoticed slow drip turned photos that
had survived the generations from memories into pulp. I hate to think what was lost.
I only wish I had scanned them and shared them with someone so that they could at
least be digitally recovered. If you are not inclined to share them, take the time to
scan them, you are their custodian and time is not their friend. With that said, I
hope you enjoy this site.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
